The Chiefs and Buccaneers are getting ready to don their Super Bowl Sunday best.
It’s going to be a departure from the norm for both teams this year, with the NFC’s Bucs operating as the home team — both in a literal and figurative sense — but not wearing their usual home red tops. The same can be said for their AFC opponent, the Chiefs, who will be wearing their home colors despite being designated as the away team.

While the Buccaneers’ red uniforms are usually their home getup, the team announced on Jan. 27 that they will be donning white uniform tops with pewter pants in Super Bowl 55.The Bucs might be leaning into superstition a little bit, as they’re undefeated while wearing this uniform combo in 2020, and have worn the away whites in their previous two playoff wins over the Packers and Saints. There’s also a bit of a numbers game that plays into the decision, too, per ESPN’s Jenna Laine:

While the home red is something you don’t see away from Arrowhead Stadium, the Chiefs will travel and wear their home red tops with white bottoms.
